Subsidiary of the MTN Group, represented in 22 countries, and telecommunications leader in Africa, MTN Cameroon is a payment and communication solutions provider incorporated in Cameroon since February 2000. MTN is one of the five most significant companies in the country.
MTN has developed in Cameroon a reliable world-class network, which is as at February 2017 made up of more than 3,700 base stations and 05 ultra-modern technical centres. It is an extensive and robust network which covers close to 93% of the population of Cameroon and ensures MTN Cameroon’s presence, redundancy and service continuity in all agglomerations of over 50,000 inhabitants.
It is without doubt the most important telecommunications network in Cameroon and the Central African sub-region. MTN Cameroon rapidly positioned itself as the leader of the national sector with close to 7.1 million subscribers at 31 December 2017.
MTN Cameroon is recognized as a key strategic partner of Cameroon’s socio-economic development. Over 80% of cash generated from its operations are reinvested into the local economy. MTN has invested over 2.200 billion francs CFA in the national economy since the company’s installation in the year 2000. Amongst MTN’s key investments is the connection of Cameroon to the WACS sub-marine optic fibre which is a strategic tool enabling the country to access international broadband services in both an abundant and cost-effective manner.
The investments made by MTN Cameroon have contributed to the development of a thousand Small and Medium – Sized enterprises amongst its partners and suppliers. The telecommunications market leader has also illustrated itself as one of the 5 highest tax payers during the last 15 years of exploitation of its 2G GSM licence. Its fiscal contribution represented on average close to 3% of the State revenue every financial year. It has paid more than 800 billion francs CFA in terms of taxes and duties since the year 2000.
Employer of Choice
Between 2000 and 2017, MTN Cameroon created a minimum of 74 direct new jobs annually; that is a total of a thousand direct jobs, 39% of which are occupied by women. Equally, due to the dynamism of its activity, it provides daily revenue to close to 200,000 families.
Since its installation in Cameroon, MTN has decided to completely trust local talent and has implemented a successful policy of nationalization of its senior executive positions. Many of its Cameroonian employees have been developed into world-class executives, and today work abroad on senior expatriate assignments within the MTN Group across the world.
In recognition of its excellent people management practices, MTN Cameroon was recently accredited as ‘’An Employer of Choice’’ by the prestigious British institution, ‘’Investors In People (IiP)’’.

On top of its extensive distribution chain that covers the national territory, MTN has 19 Service Centres and 2 Contact Centres that are available around the clock, to provide its clients with personalized quality services at all times. In 2005, MTN Cameroon created the first corporate foundation in Cameroon and has since then donated 1% of its Profit After Tax yearly to finance its activities.
